Reflexology is . . .

Reflexology is the stimulation of over 7200 nerve endings in your feet with many more in the hands, ear and skull. Each nerve is connected to a system in the body whether it be the lymphatic/immune system, the neurological system, the respiratory system, the circulatory system, the organ and gland systems, or the musculoskeletal system.

When the nerves are stimulated, the body is put into a state of relaxation or homeostasis. It is this state which makes it possible for the body to begin to heal itself. In addition, auricular therapy (ear reflexology) releases natural endorphins in the body, and it's own form of morphine for pain relief. Reflexology uses the meridians and accupressure points of Chinese medicine.

Although the principles of reflexology have been around for centuries in various forms and in various cultures and countries, it was first made popular in North America in 1917 with the publishing of a book by Dr. William Fitzerald regarding the treatment of health conditions through the stimulation of the ears.
